*Pendulum Ignites a Cinematic Trailer for THQ’s /Frontlines: Fuel of War/*
*/3 minute High Definition CGI movie paints a chilling picture of the
future/*
*San Diego**, Calif.** February 4, 2008* – Pendulum, a leading digital
animation & fx studio for the advertising, video game and entertainment
industries, has completed cinematic work for /’Frontlines: Fuel of
War’/, for publisher, THQ, and developer, Kaos Studios. The 3-minute HD
cinematic trailer explains the eerily possible future war which is based
on the headlines of today.
The game is set in the midst of a world in crisis, where a WW III is
unfolding as it reacts to depleting natural resources and political
instability. Beginning with brewing unrest in urban centers and
escalating into the most horrible of heated modern warfare, the movie
delivers a barrage of high-tech weaponry, stealth aircraft streaking
toward unsuspecting targets, high-speed tanks crashing through rural
terrain and ominous missiles raining from the sky. Adding to this large
scale chaos are harrowing scenes of infantry combat and urban warfare,
as superpowers collide to reclaim a world on the brink of destruction.
The trailer allows a glimpse of the shockingly realistic and dynamic
universe that players will have the opportunity to experience.
Exercising its award winning 3D capabilities, Pendulum brings the
believable world of /’Frontlines: Fuel of War’/ to life in this recent
fully CGI (Computer Generated Image) cinematic game trailer.
“Frontlines: Fuel of War is an extremely exciting AAA title and we
were very proud to have played a role in its development,” said
Robert Taylor, President and Exec Producer of Pendulum. “The HD CGI
cinematic trailer was created to help suspend disbelief by
conveying critical background elements of an all-too-plausible story,
and drawing the players emotionally into the chaotic world of the game.
It’s always been Pendulum’s goal to create compelling storytelling
and exciting action sequences for our clients and their audiences.
Working with Kaos and THQ on this project was an ideal opportunity for
us to do exactly that.”
Kaos Studios had built next-generation assets for the game, but were
eager to expand upon its photorealism, take advantage of the HD
resolution, and leverage the rendering possibilities inherent in
pre-rendered CGI. Pendulum was hired to help facilitate their vision,
with the ultimate goal being to faithfully maintain the atmosphere and
tone of Kaos’ richly textured world, while enhancing its believability,
refining the already high quality assets, and lending the sequences a
sense of dramatic intensity for which the studio has become well known.
To do this, Pendulum used award-wining tools like Autodesk Maya,
Pixologic ZBrush, eyeon Fusion, Adobe AfterFX, and mental images’
powerful rendering engine, mental ray.
Pendulum’s Michael McCormick served as the project’s 3D Lead and
Director of Animation, with Taylor as Pendulum’s Exec Producer and Lead
Compositor, Wade Ammon as Associate Producer, and Kaos Studios’ Art
Director, Luis Cataldi, serving as the project’s Creative Director.
