I’ve had the Flip Action Tripod for about a month now and I love it.  This is the most helpful tripod ever.  It is essentially a combination of the original Action Mount which was a metal plate with a screw on it for the camera and two strips of velcro that might have been about a foot long.  I know that doesn’t sound like much, much that was the most versatile camera accessory I have ever owned.  I looped that Velcro around handlebars on bikes, motorcycles, and snow mobiles.  I looped it through my helmet when I went snowboarding, plus looping it through my boot laces and onto the back of my glove a few times.http://store.theflip.com/img/prodimgs/AAT1B_01large.jpg

The new Flip Action Tripod is much improved.  Basically, it rocks. It’s a completely new design that couples the best of the flat plate with Velcro design with a folding tripod design to make a versatile peripheral.  Now I only have to throw one thing in my bag instead of two and I appreciate the simplicity of the whole thing.  The only disadvantage that I see is that it might be considered too big, but how could it be so durable without being “big” – I say “big” because size is all relative.

I’ve used the flip action tripod in a multitude of situations.  As a small tripod it is very good, which sort of translates to being decent as a real tripod.  The Velcro straps are very sturdy and anchor the whole rig very easily to anything they can wrap around.  It’s a little awkward that I had to unwrap the Velcro straps and snap them off the tripod in order to open up the three legs, but it does seem like a reasonable design so I’ll skip the criticism.

I also found that I could use the action tripod with any camera as long as the mounting screw fit.  Who wouldn’t want a folding camera tripod and mount that’s convenient and sturdy?
